Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) affects the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves in your eyes. Symptoms over time can create problems with vision, balance, muscle control and can cause tingling, numbness, weakness, cognitive problems and hinder other body functions. Since each individual is chemically unique, the same disease may have different impact.

An autoimmune disease is when the body’s immune system starts attacking it’s own tissues. In MS, the immune system malfunctions and destroys the myelin (fatty substance) that coats and protects nerve fibers in the brain, and affects the central nervous system. This causes inflammation and further damage to the mylein. The myelin sheath is essential for proper function of the nervous system.

You can get tested for MS with your doctor by blood tests, lumber puncture, MRI.

Signs of an MS attack include the following:

  • Increased fatigue
  • Tingling
  • Numbness
  • Depression
  • Visual changes
  • Pain
  • Tremors

North Americans have the highest rate of Multiple Sclerosis – Canada being the highest in the world. It is estimated that 1 in every 340 Canadians are living with this disease according to the MS society.

If MS is an autoimmune disease then let’s try to understand the theory behind why autoimmune disease attacks. There are many theories, one is that the body doesn’t recognize a specific protein because of oxidation when sugar molecule, heavy metal ion, virus or bacteria particle gets attached to it. Common oxidizer is glucose and when the protein is oxidized, it changes its shape and looks like an foreign invader. This is when the immune cells attack. Another way the immune system attacks is when viruses and bacteria share some of the same amino acid sequences found in our cellular proteins to hide from immune cells. When immune cells recognize that an infection is breeding, the immune system begins to attack that infection therefore “self” attack begins.

At Balance One Health we optimize the body’s environment to minimize immune hyperactivity, removing toxins that cause further harm and inflammation with nutrient-dense diet, balance stress hormones, and resolve chronic infections which are the primary line of defense against autoimmune disease. Rebuilding the foundation of your cells to replacing incorrectly shaped molecules, results in the rate of decline slowing down, and even stop resulting in improvement of the overall body health.

We recommend you follow up with your doctor during the course of your program.
